Rejected petition: Sanction Chiltern Railways, fire the Managing Director, and investigate DfT
Rejected on
Chiltern Railways abuses its franchise and DfT lets it happen. Services are consistently delayed and cancelled. Trains are dangerous, dirty, and overcrowded. Ticketing infrastructure is broken, staff untrained, and stations dilapidated. Passenger injury is common and fare evasion is endemic.
Yet in 2025 DfT doubled Chiltern Railways’ performance bonus and Chiltern Railways awarded its directors a 45% pay rise. For his immense failure, the outgoing Managing Director is in line for a new DfT-funded job at Network Rail.
DfT should sanction Chiltern Railways by reclaiming its performance bonus, subsidy, and customer income. The Managing Director should be fired. And parliament should investigate how DfT lost control at the expense of customer safety and at the taxpayer’s expense.
