Rejected petition: Introduce stricter national planning & environmental standards for data centres

Introduce stricter national planning and environmental standards for data centres

Data centres are expanding rapidly across the UK. They can affect local communities through noise, water use, energy demand, traffic, sewage capacity and impacts on wildlife.

We want stronger national planning and environmental standards for new data centres, including mandatory environmental assessments, sustainability requirements, protection for residential areas and habitats, and limits on concentration in the same locality. Local infrastructure capacity should also be assessed.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions must ask for specific action from the UK Government or Parliament, and we are not sure what you mean by "stricter national planning and environmental standards" and how it is different to what is currently in place. You can start a new petition setting this out more clearly.
