Rejected petition: Mandate safe protocols & urgent response times for NHS pregnancy T1D pumps

Rejected on

We want the government to mandate a strict 48-hour safety protocol and legally binding emergency response times for NHS teams monitoring high-risk pregnant patients on insulin pumps and CGMs.

Pregnancy spikes insulin sensitivity, creating a lethal risk of sudden hypoglycaemia (severe low blood sugar). Transitioning a pregnant patient onto an insulin pump without a 48-hour inpatient safety window is dangerous. Also, having a CGM is useless if specialist teams act too slowly when blood sugar drops. We are calling for a national safety framework that requires an immediate, emergency escalation protocol whenever a monitored patient’s blood sugar crashes.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

Decisions about the monitoring and treatment of patients, including pregnant patients with diabetes, are a matter for medical professionals and NHS trusts.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
