Rejected petition: Calls for stricter regulations for the shipping industry

Rejected on

Stricter nationwide regulations for the shipping industry following a ship colliding with a container ship at the Port of Tyne (South Shields) 19/07/26. It released 1 billion nurdles into the River Tyne. Nurdles cause death to marine and wildlife. This is the worst environmental disaster in the NE.

The spread of plastic pellets (nurdles) into the River Tyne has caused uproar among local residents and charities with stark concerns about the incident's prolonged impact on the NE coastline. Calls are mounting for appropriate action, including mandatory measures at sea to prevent another disaster of this kind.
We are therefore asking the Government to:
A full investigation into the Port of Tyne collision
Introduce stricter regulations for the shipping industry
