Rejected petition: Introduce statutory regulation and licensing for funeral homes and mortuaries.
Rejected on
Introduce primary legislation to establish a statutory licensing, regulatory, and inspection framework for all funeral directors and mortuary facilities in England and Wales.
Unlike Scotland, anyone in England & Wales can run a funeral home or mortuary without a license or inspection. Voluntary codes fail to protect grieving families and dignified care.
We call for primary legislation enforcing:
Statutory Standards:
Legally binding rules on mortuary temperature, security & body tracking.
Price Transparency: Mandatory itemized pricing & owner disclosures.
Independent Regulator:
A statutory body to license, inspect, fine & close non-compliant facilities.
