Open petition: Establish a National Freshwater Resilience and Stewardship Strategy
Created by Roxanna Mary Piper Honey
Closes on
Establish a National Freshwater Stewardship and Resilience Strategy including an independent review of water governance, use, allocation, storage and major water users; independent regional catchment networks; and a Citizens' Assembly to support immediate actions and shape long term reforms.
Hosepipe bans and household water saving campaigns alone are no longer enough. Freshwater is a finite strategic national asset. We need a whole systems approach to water planning that improves drought, flood and wildfire resilience, strengthens food systems and restores biodiversity, while ensuring major water users are accountable and freshwater is managed in the public interest through stronger governance, national leadership, local stewardship and long term planning for future generations.
