Open petition: Review access to, and funding for, NHS powered wheelchairs

Created by Lucy Kate Gatward
Closes on

Too many ambulatory wheelchair users are denied NHS-powered wheelchairs because they can walk short distances. We want eligibility to be soundly based on clinical need, safety and independence, not just on walking or standing ability.

Too many ambulatory wheelchair users are refused NHS-powered wheelchairs because they can walk short distances, even when walking might be unsafe or worsen their condition. We call on the Government to review NHS eligibility and provider relevant funding so decisions are based on clinical need, functional ability and safety rather than just walking ability. We believe this would help people with conditions such as ME/CFS, POTS, MS, EDS and other disabilities improve quality of life, remain independent, and access work, education and family life.
