Open petition: Require minimum heat safety and ventilation standards in live music venues
Created by Tennie Brooks
Closes on
Introduce minimum ventilation and heat safety standards for indoor live music venues to protect audiences, performers, staff and photographers during extreme heat. Provide grants to help smaller independent venues improve ventilation and cooling where needed.
Overcrowded venues can become dangerously hot, increasing the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and medical emergencies. Better ventilation and cooling would make live events safer without placing an unfair financial burden on independent venues. As a live music photographer, I recently worked at a sold-out indoor gig where the heat became overwhelming. Audience members, staff and the band all commented on how extreme the conditions were.
