Rejected petition: Make courts order destructions of devices in image abuse cases when convicted

Rejected on

We want the government to change the law so when someone is convicted of revenge porn or other image base abuse offences court must order seizure and destruction of any devices or storage media containing the offending intimate images unless exceptionable legal reason to do so

Victims of image based abuse often suffer long-term harm from knowing their intimate images still exist and could be accessed again by offender, even after conviction offenders may retain copies on devices or cloud storage.Making destruction orders mandatory could ensure more protection for victims, could prevent further circulation and could reduce further psychological damage. We believe no victim should live with fear that their abuse material still exist after conviction is obtained
