Open petition: Mandate parental CCTV access in childcare settings after safeguarding incidents
Created by Jody Riley
Closes on
We call on the Government to introduce a legal right for parents to have clear, timely CCTV access in all childcare settings and nurseries within a set timeframe, following a safeguarding incident involving their child.
This should include prompt viewing or provision of relevant footage, subject to safeguards protecting other individuals. We are concerned that current processes can leave parents waiting weeks, navigating SARs and receiving transcripts instead of seeing what happened. CCTV can be crucial to understanding incidents, challenging inaccuracies and ensuring accountability. We are calling for a standard timeframe and clear, mandated access, with measures to protect other children’s privacy.
