Open Review the quality and oversight of Child DLA decision-making

Review the Child Disability Living Allowance (DLA) decision process, including how decisions are assessed and ensure they are regularly independently overseen. A review should include considering initial decisions, Mandatory Reconsiderations (MR) and tribunal outcomes.

We call for such a review to consider:
• Whether child DLA decisions accurately reflect the evidence and give clear reasons to claimants.
• Where decisions change at MR or tribunal, examine why and whether issues could have been resolved earlier.
• Recurring problems and inform improvements using root-cause analysis.
• Whether changes improve first-time decision quality and reduce avoidable disputes and stress for families.
• Lessons from changed decisions should feed back into future decision-making.
