Open petition: Amend GPs’ contracts to require them to enter shared care agreements
Created by Graham Thomas Walton
Closes on
Amend GPs’ contracts so they are required to accept Shared Care Agreements for NHS Right to Choose patients once stabilised by an NHS-commissioned specialist. Currently, GPs can refuse shared care, forcing patients onto remote providers.
Under NHS Right to Choose (RTC), patients on long waiting lists see NHS-commissioned specialists. However, GPs retain the legal right to decline Shared Care Agreements once a patient is stabilised.
We believe refusals force patients onto remote RTC providers for repeat prescriptions, causing severe delays, health risks, and higher costs for private dispensing. We want the Government to amend GP contracts to require them to accept Shared Care Agreements for patients stabilised by NHS-commissioned RTC providers.
