Rejected petition: Merlin’s Law

Rejected on

To amend the Road Traffic Act and add cars to the list of animals you must legally report when hit.

Under the current law, drivers must report collisions involving certain animals However, cats are not included. I believe this is outdated, unfair and needs to change. Cats are much-loved pets and members of millions of families across the UK. When a cat is killed or seriously injured on the road, their owners deserve to know what has happened. Families should not be left searching for their beloved pet, wondering whether they are missing, injured or have been killed in a collision.
