Rejected petition: Stop all new oil and gas drilling/extraction licences

Rejected on

This petition asks that, in light of the climate crisis, the government does not grant any new oil or gas extraction licences (on land or sea).

The scientific evidence is clear - we must act now to reduce the impact of the climate crisis.

The majority of scientists agree that burning fossil fuels will increase the global temperature. This has a direct impact on the UK - heat waves, floods, unpredictable weather. This damages individual lives but also contributes to our increased cost of living; farmers have says this has been a terrible harvest because of the prolonged heat wave with likely shortages and an increase in our food bills.

The government should focus on green energy rather than rely on and sell fossil fuels.
