Rejected petition: Change on penalties currently received for driving under 25mph in a 20mph zone.
Rejected on
Current penalties for 24mph in an 20 are 3 pts and a £100 fine - with a potential driving ban after 9 pts. With much of London now having blanket 20mph zones - this is resulting in overly harsh punishments to regular commuters & people who need to drive - potentially loosing licenses & jobs/mobility
There are many people in the capital that cannot work from home, who’s job still requires there physical presence in a particular place… in particular those working within the film industry, most of home are required to drive for there jobs or for whom would be unable to get to work without a vehicle… we feel overly penalised by the current legislation, having been told by Magistrates Courts our need to earn a living isn’t a good enough legal argument to keep a driving license after 9 pts all at 24mph
