Open petition: Require food delivery companies to employ & give workers more legal protections
Created by David Edward Clay
Closes on
Require food delivery companies to employ deliverers, not classify their workers as self-employed and extend employed worker rights to them. Mandate food delivery companies to provide workers with insurance, training and safety equipment, e.g. lights, helmets & high visibility clothing.
We think this change could result in many benefits, which include creating a safer working environment, having fewer people working illegally in the sector and making these jobs safer and more attractive for young people. It could also increase the price of junk food and therefore reduce obesity rates and other associated health issues.
It could also ensure better accountability within the food delivery sector and reduce the number of couriers who are using food delivery as a cover for other acts.
