Open petition: Require new data centres to be energy net zero via local production
Created by Christopher Harding
Closes on
Requite new /in planning stage data centres to be energy net-zero by making them produce enough power locally through renewables to cover their own usage. Apply large fines and triple energy costs for noncompliance, with the proceeds going to public renewable projects.
Data Centres are large, power-hungry buildings, where large amounts of power are used, which can end up as waste heat. In our view, these data centres could be powered by renewables.
We believe this could have the following benefits:
- Push the focus onto energy efficient solutions.
- Reduce the impact on the power grid, allowing construction in more remote
areas, away from residential areas.
- Opportunities for innovation, promoting the UK as leaders in this area.
