Open petition: Ban ALL outdoor fire ignitions under extreme heatwave conditions
Created by Abigail Croker
Closes on
When environmental conditions across the UK warrant hosepipe bans, they may also warrant ignition bans. With extreme heat and dry fuels elevating wildfire risk, restricting avoidable human ignition sources - the leading cause of wildfires globally - is a logical step in wildfire prevention.
Wildfire conditions are worsening across the UK. High temperatures, low rainfall, and increasingly dry, combustible fuels are creating growing risks to rural and urban communities. With human activity the leading cause of wildfire ignitions globally, wildfire experts are calling for restrictions on outdoor ignition sources during high-risk periods, including cigarettes, disposable BBQs and bonfires.
