Open petition: Fund transportation for compulsory school age children to catchment schools
Created by Leia Morales
Closes on
Ensure children can access free school transport to their school where transport is required regardless of school choice. We think current rules financially penalise families for choosing a catchment or feeder school and undermine genuine parental choice and access to suitable education.
We think school transport guidance is outdated following the introduction of academies and does not reflect modern school admissions. For example, in Nottinghamshire, families can face paying £720 a year to attend a designated catchment and feeder secondary school, even though bus travel is also required for the alternative local school. We believe the policy is particularly unfair to rural communities, where public transport is unavailable and walking on country roads is unsafe.
