Rejected petition: Provide emergency funds to remediate Arnold's Field and strengthen council power

Rejected on

We ask the UK Government to provide emergency funding to remediate Arnold's Field, Launders Lane, Rainham, where repeated fires and contamination continue to affect residents, and to strengthen councils' powers to act when privately owned contaminated land poses a serious risk to public health.

Arnold's Field has been the site of repeated fires, contamination, strong odours and ongoing environmental concerns, causing severe distress and disruption for nearby residents. Havering Council formally designated the site as Contaminated Land under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. However, the scale and cost of remediation, combined with the challenges of privately owned land, have delayed a lasting solution. We believe Government funding and stronger council powers are urgently needed.
