Deal with neglect of Local authority which enabled passage of fire, allowing the blaze to be spread. Extension of M27 replacing stretch A31 would act as fire break. Aug ‘26 impact worse than a well planned infrastructure project would cause. This highway is no longer fit for purpose.
The cost of the early August ‘26 incident and wider environmental impact is worse than well implemented infrastructure development would have. Contraflow could control traffic during the project. This would prevent surrounding New Forest lanes being inundated again with the influx of congestion which resulted. The wild fire ignited by vehicle blaze on a highway no longer fit for purpose. Ringwood already has 4 lanes, Dorset could also benefit from a stretch of motorway.
