Open petition: Mandate car manufacturers to install ghost immobilisers as standard

Created by Timothy Flint
Closes on

Legislate to require all car manufacturers to install an industry- and insurance-approved ghost immobiliser system on every new vehicle sold in the UK prior to first registration. This will place more responsibility for ensuring vehicle security with the vehicle manufacturer rather than the consumer

We believe automotive companies adopted keyless entry systems for their cars without sufficient consideration of the insecurity of these systems. This decision has created multiple new attack vectors which the motorist now must defend themselves against (key relay attacks, key cloning), often requiring expensive modifications to property or cars. Car makers should fix this issue. Ghost immobilisers ensure only the owner can start a vehicle, and should be fitted as standard.
