Open petition: Require by law landlords to pass solar panel benefits to tenants

Created by Simon Venn
Closes on

Require by law that landlords, councils and housing associations pass the financial benefits of solar panels to tenants of properties fixed with those panels, including the benefit of electricity generated and payments for surplus electricity exported to the grid.

Many rented homes have solar panels, but tenants may not receive the full financial benefit. Landlords can receive payments for surplus energy exported to the grid. We believe these payments should benefit the household. Giving tenants the export income, or an equivalent energy bill credit, could help reduce household costs. This could particularly help people in social and affordable housing, ensuring renewable energy reduces bills for those who need the savings most.
