Open petition: Make it a legal requirement to report cat collisions and cover vet fees

Created by Leanne Carter
Closes on

I propose that the government enforce a new law that requires all drivers involved in a cat collision to report it to the police and also be legally required to cover all veterinary expenses caused by the collision. Cats are loved pets too. Cats’ lives matter just as much as any other animals.

On 07/08/26 my beloved cat Tiger was involved in a cat collision. A collision where the driver did not stop, report nor seek help for her. Thankfully Tiger was helped by locals but sadly the injuries she sustained were so severe the kindest thing we could do for her was to end her pain. It is unfair that it currently is not a legal requirement to report a cat collision but it is a dog. Cats are equally loved pets and deserve the same law. Drivers should be held responsible for their actions.
