Open petition: Fund & mandate standardised empathy & accessibility training for NHS A&E staff
Created by Ynes Beatriz Hernandez Day
Closes on
Fund and mandate empathy and accessibility training that is designed to help disabled, chronically ill and neurodivergent patients for all NHS A&E staff. It is reported that they face lower quality healthcare than other patients, sometimes encountering dismissive or neglectful staff.
We believe this training is vital for safe and equitable care, so patients don't avoid urgent help. Mistreatment can lead to preventable harm, worsening health conditions, sensory overload, severe psychological trauma and a loss of trust in healthcare providers, which can result in patients developing a dangerous avoidance of seeking emergency service help at times of critical urgency.
Anyone can become disabled, and we believe every patient deserves safe, equal care.
