Open petition: Guarantee PSA tests for all men over 50 to help reduce prostate cancer deaths

Created by Nigel Berrington
Closes on

Increase funding to guarantee provision for all men over 50 to receive a PSA test on request from their GP. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men. We believe the recent DHSC guidance for GPs to decide who gets a PSA test and who doesn't is wrong.

Over 12,000 men die of prostate cancer in the UK every year. It is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men, yet the Department for Social Care has just released guidance for GPs that men over 50 are not to be automatically entitled to a PSA test and their GP should assess who should have a test using "risk factors". Leading experts in the field have said this will lead to more unnecessary deaths. We believe it is wrong and immoral to rely on a postcode lottery for men's lives.
