Open petition: Launch a review into adult social care costs & tax reliefs
Created by Jacqueline Jackson
Closes on
Review VAT treatment across social care and implement VAT relief on essential PPE. Introduce National Insurance relief for regulated social care employers. We also want the review to investigate Local Authority adult care fees to ensure they reflect the actual cost of care.
We believe social care is crumbling, despite its vital role in supporting vulnerable people at home. Providers have faced a rise in NI costs, inadequate local authority fees, VAT on essential supplies, and soaring operational expenses. Without urgent government action—such as targeted NI relief, VAT exemptions, fair fees, business rates relief, and sustainable funding—we are concerned that many providers will fail, squeezing families, councils, and the NHS. Social care is essential and we believe it deserves parity with the NHS.
