Open petition: Review KCSIE to protect trans and intersex students' rights
Created by Anzhelika Gurashova
Closes on
We think the Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026 guidance is unsafe for trans youth and should be reviewed. For example, mandating active parental involvement in most cases, setting a binary criteria & requiring provision of single-sex toilet facilities unless self-contained individual toilets.
We believe that the KCSIE guidance does not adequately protect transgender and intersex students, and is violating their rights, and abusing their vulnerability. We urge the DfE and UK government to revise it to respect students’ gender identities, support use of chosen names and pronouns, provide safe and appropriate access to facilities, and explicitly prevent non-consensual “outing” of trans students, including parents, who may not be supportive. We think this would protect privacy, dignity and equality for every pupil.
