Open petition: Publish a national food emergency plan and assess strategic food reserves
Created by James Watson Wood
Closes on
We want the Government to establish and publish a national food emergency plan for major or prolonged disruption to UK food supplies, and to assess the case for maintaining strategic reserves of essential foods.
The UK food system relies on domestic production and complex international supply chains that can be disrupted by extreme weather, conflict, trade or energy shortages and other emergencies.
We want the Government to assess how essential food supplies would be maintained during a prolonged disruption, identify critical vulnerabilities, consider whether strategic reserves of staple foods would improve resilience, and explain how essential food would be distributed fairly, particularly to vulnerable people.
This is about preparedness, not predicting shortages.
