We ask Parliament to require the Government to explore using secure, permanently moored prison ships as temporary additional prison capacity, helping to tackle overcrowding and reduce the need to release prisoners early while permanent prison capacity is developed.
Prison overcrowding is resulting in some prisoners being released early, causing understandable distress for victims’ families. Every victim and every family deserves equal consideration, regardless of who the victim was or their occupation. This petition calls for temporary prison ships to provide additional secure capacity, helping ensure that prisoners are not released early simply because the prison estate lacks sufficient space.
