Open petition: Review use of seat belts on trains & mandate installation and use on new trains

Created by Hilary Jayne Davies
Closes on

Mandate the installation and use of passenger seatbelts on all trains and examine the possible benefits of possible installation and use of seatbelts on trains currently in use.

High-speed rail travel involves risks from sudden emergency braking and derailments. Unrestrained passengers can be violently thrown, causing preventable fatalities, severe trauma and injuries – especially to children, the elderly and disabled. Coaches and planes mandate restraints; we believe trains should too. We want the Government to fund a feasibility study into retrofitting fleets and mandate seatbelts on all new trains bringing our transit safety into the 21st century as a matter of urgency.
