Rejected petition: Create a fairer approach to term-time absences and family holidays.
Rejected on
We call on the Government to urgently review the current rules surrounding term-time absences and penalty notices, and create a fairer, more balanced system that protects children’s education whilst also recognising children’s wellbeing, family life and the value of learning beyond the classroom.
We ask the Government to review term-time absence rules and create a fairer approach for responsible families. We support education and good attendance, but the current system does not always recognise individual circumstances. Children learn both in and outside the classroom through culture, travel and life experiences. Families should not face fear or penalties for occasional absences where children are thriving and attendance is strong. A balanced system should support education and wellbeing
