Rejected petition: Change the law on council housing rights

Rejected on

Change the law regarding council housing rights.
The new laws must state that homeless persons must have priority and vulnerable rights, regardless of whether or not they have medical health problems; homeless people should not have to stay on the streets because they are homeless.

The issue is that councils do not care if you are homeless for whatever reason.
If you are homeless, you should have the human right to be housed regardless of health problems and be placed in temporary accommodation until they find suitable permanent accommodation for that person/s.
Councils should not be able to victimise or discriminate against that person/s for whatever reason that may be; every homeless person has a right to be housed, including all ex-veterans.

Why was this petition rejected?

We can't publish petitions when the request is something that's already happening or something that has been announced since you started your petition.

We think your petition is covered by Government or Parliament action already. If you'd like something else, you could start a new petition clearly explaining what it is.

Under Section 166A(3) of the Housing Act 1996, Local Authorities’ social housing allocation schemes must ensure “reasonable preference” is given to people who are homeless, meaning homeless people are already given legal priority for social housing allocation.

You may wish to look at Citizens Advice, which can give you advice about homelessness and housing: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/housing/homeless-help/homelessness/

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
