Open petition: Reinstall a national physical warning siren network as a civil defence backup
Created by Ali Javed
Closes on
We call on the Government to reinstate and modernise a nationwide physical siren network to act as a resilient, analogue backup to the digital Emergency Alerts system.
The current UK Emergency Alerts system relies entirely on mobile networks. While efficient, we are concerned that digital infrastructure is highly vulnerable to cyber attacks, severe power grid failures, and Electromagnetic Pulses (EMPs) that could instantly disable mobile networks.
Many European nations maintain physical horn or siren networks as a vital civilian safety layer. We believe the UK requires a robust, non-digital fail-safe to alert the public of immediate homeland threats when digital and cellular communications fail.
