Open petition: Strengthen UK law to prevent unsafe interference with scaffolding and access
Created by Mark Thomas Stanway
Closes on
Amend the Work at Height Regulations 2005 to introduce specific legal controls for unauthorised interference with installed scaffolding, a mandatory visible inspection-status system, and competent-person requirements for the installation, removal, relocation and alteration of scaffold ladder access.
Scaffolds can become unsafe after inspection through interference. We ask Government to: 1) prohibit unauthorised scaffold alteration by users and other trades, with interference reported and affected areas stopped pending assessment; 2) require a visible standardised SAFE TO USE/DO NOT USE inspection status; and 3) require competent installation, removal or alteration of scaffold ladders, with safer access controls considered.
