Open petition: Do not give elected mayors powers to overrule local council planning decisions
Created by Amanda Coleman
Closes on
We want planning decisions to remain with local planning authorities and elected councillors.
We want planning decisions to remain with local planning authorities and elected councillors. We believe local communities should have a direct say in developments affecting their area through their local council. Giving metro mayors powers to call in, determine, or overrule major planning applications could reduce local democratic accountability and weaken community influence. We therefore call on the Government to keep planning decisions under local authority control.
