The combination of rising living & childcare costs can force families onto one income. The £50,270 Cap stops single earners from receiving the £1,260 Marriage Allowance transfer. If removed this would provide vital £252 tax relief, ending what we feel is an unfair penalty on single-earner households

This cut-off seems to unfairly arbitrary & penalises single-earner households. A family where one parent earns £55,000 receives zero benefit from the unused personal allowance of the stay-at-home parent. In stark contrast, a dual-income household earning £50,000 across two jobs benefits from two full personal allowances, totalling £25,140 tax-free. This creates a severe tax penalty for families shouldering the burden of single-handedly providing for their household in a punishing economy which removing the Primary Earner Income Cap would go some way to mitigate.
