Open petition: Review spouse income rules for UK citizens married 5 years+ with a British child

Created by Susan Gnadou Zabo
Closes on

Launch a review into waiving or reducing the £29,000 minimum income requirement for obtaining a spouse visa for anyone who has been married for over 5 years and who has a child with British citizenship.

We feel the system, fails mixed-nationality families through rigid criteria genuine households cannot meet. We believe families like ours—married 7 years with a British child—are locked out by the £29k threshold, childcare realities, and visa work bans. Consequently, many British citizens are prevented from living in their home country with their spouse and family. We want the Government to look into changing the law to exempt long-term marriages and parents of British children from these income rules.
