Increasing the funding for SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) provision and overhaul the system to invest in the future of SEND children and the country.
Increase SEND funding and urgently review the EHCP system. Councils can deny EHCPs that are later granted at tribunal, wasting time and public money while children go without support. Mainstream and specialist schools lack the funding, resources and places to meet demand. Without proper support now, we risk greater pressure on mental health services and benefits in the long term. SEND children deserve the foundations to succeed, not a system they have to try to survive.

The white paper included major reforms to the system of support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in England. This includes funding reforms. The King’s Speech in May 2026 included an Education for All Bill to take forward the legislative aspects of the government’s plans.
