Rejected petition: Get rid of the football blackout ban
Rejected on
Get rid of the football blackout ban so fans who cant actually make it to the games don't get punished so they can't watch it on their clubs TV subscription instead of just listening to commentary. People shouldn't get punished for not being able to go to games.
The UK must end the Saturday 3 PM football blackout. This 1960s rule prevents live TV matches between 2:45 PM and 5:15 PM to protect lower-league attendance. Today, it fails. International fans watch every game legally, while domestic fans are forced into darkness or driven to illegal streaming. Lifting the ban would capture huge broadcast revenue that could be shared with smaller clubs. Fans love real matchday atmosphere; TV won't stop them. It is time to modernize and respect local supporters.
