Open petition: Ban liquid plastics in household products and introduce clear labelling
Created by Seher Mirza
Closes on
Introduce a total ban on Polymers in Liquid Formulations (PLFs) in all household cleaning and toiletry products due to health and environmental harm, alongside mandatory clear product labelling.
UK law currently restricts certain solid microplastics in specific rinse off cosmetics but does not regulate synthetic liquid and semi-solid plastics (PLFs). These polymers are often poorly biodegradable and can persist in the environment, contaminating waterways and the food chain, which raises concerns for ecosystems and health.
The Government must ban PLFs in consumer formulations, starting with toiletries and detergents where green alternatives exist. Until a full ban is achieved, the Government must introduce clear packaging labels so consumers can identify and avoid liquid plastics.
