Open petition: Fund recovery wards in hospitals for mothers that have newborns in NICU
Created by Katie Williams
Closes on
Fund separate wards for mothers who have babies in the NICU where they don’t have to watch other mothers bonding with their babies. It could be a space for women in the same position to seek comfort and reassurance from each other.
My son was born at 34 weeks via emergency C section he was sent to the NICU straight away. I was sent up to the ward with 3 other women who had their babies with them. I watched them hold, cuddle and feed their babies. It wasn’t until the next day that it really affected me emotionally, especially because we had to keep all the curtains open because of the babies being jaundiced. It’s hard enough being separated from your baby but to watch other women holding theirs is really difficult.
