Open petition: Consider funding and supporting colleges to offer resits in GCSE science

Created by Alicia Hancock
Closes on

Colleges may offer GCSE maths and English part-time courses and resits. But adults wishing to enter primary teaching, health, social nursing etc that may need science, may not have passed at GCSE. Some colleges offer GCSE science. Consider funding and supporting more colleges to do so.

We believe more colleges offering GCSE resit science courses for adults would help as being able to travel to a local college will be more convenient rather than travelling further afield. Also, we think having a choice of what science, whether that's biology, chemistry or physics, and resitting it just like maths and English would help more people to get into the job they wish to. Many colleges have labs that could be used for resit courses when not being used for normal courses during the day or in the evening when maths and English lessons are on. Those without labs could explore working with local secondary schools that do to host practicals in the evening, and all the theory work in the college classroom.
