Open petition: Legally require restaurants and fast food chains to cater for diabetics

Created by John Brown
Closes on

Introduce mandatory laws requiring restaurants and fast-food chains to offer diabetic-friendly meal options certified by health and nutrition professionals, utilizing low-glycemic ingredients and healthy alternatives for diabetic people rather than just standard carbohydrates.

The UK faces a major diabetes epidemic, with 6M people estimated to be living with diabetes, and 1.3M of those undiagnosed. Diabetics are often excluded from dining out due to high-glycemic commercial menus. It is unacceptable for anyone to tell them to "just eat a salad"; plain salad lacks vital protein and amino acids needed for basic health. We want restaurants to be legally required to provide core menu alternatives for diabetics rather than just standard carbs, such as chip shops offering low-glycemic sweet potato options alongside white potatoes.
