Improve mental health crisis care through mandatory staff training, faster responses and clear national standards. Ensure people in crisis, particularly those with a known history of mental illness, are properly assessed and supported rather than turned away without appropriate care.
We call on the Government to introduce mandatory mental health training, improve crisis response times, set national standards for crisis care, ensure previous mental health history is considered, and strengthen accountability when people are denied safe and appropriate support.

The General Medical Council (GMC) is the regulator of all medical doctors, physician assistants (PAs) and physician assistants in anaesthesia (PAAs) practicing in the UK. It sets and enforces the standards all doctors, PAs and PAAs must adhere to. The GMC is independent of Government, directly accountable to Parliament, and is responsible for operational matters concerning the discharge of its statutory duties.
The GMC does not deliver, design, or commission education and training. Each medical college sets its own undergraduate curriculum.
The training curriculum for postgraduate trainee GPs is set by the Royal College of General Practitioners, and has to meet the standards set by the General Medical Council.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council is the independent regulator of the nursing profession in the UK. It is responsible for establishing standards of education, training, conduct and performance for nurses, midwives and nursing associates and for ensuring the maintenance of those standards.
