Protect the State Pension from means testing by law
The State Pension is based on an individual’s National Insurance record and provides a foundation for retirement planning.
Means testing would penalise those who have saved, discourage private pension provision and make entitlement depend on income or assets rather than qualifying years.
We ask Parliament to legislate so that the State Pension remains non-means-tested.
Why was this petition rejected?
It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.
No Parliament can bind its successor since each Parliament is sovereign.
There appear to be no current Government plans to do this, which would anyway need the approval of Parliament in legislation.
We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
