Open petition: Mandatory Prison for Drivers Who Conceal Accidents or Obstruct Investigations

We are seeking a minimum sentence of a jail term for drivers who are proven to have purposely looked to avoid justice after killing someone in a road traffic collision.

Impose a mandatory prison sentence in cases where the driver of a vehicle knowingly avoids reporting any accident immediately, regardless of whether they believe that have hit an animal, in order to allow drug or alcohol levels in their bloodstream to fall below the legal limits or obstruct discovery of a victim and at the same time has knowingly perverted the cause of justice or not cooperated with the investigation which as a consequence causes significant hurt and distress to the victims’ family.
