Open petition: Make AI education a standalone subject in the national curriculum from KS1

Created by Rukhiya Budden
Closes on

We want the Government to make artificial intelligence a distinct subject in the national curriculum, taught from KS1, rather than teaching AI primarily through Computing. Children could learn how AI behaves, its capabilities and limitations, and how to think critically about it.

AI is a new technology and we think it must be taught as a standalone subject from KS1. AI agents already perform human jobs and children still need to learn things that AI can do. It can answer questions about identity, feelings and belonging. As a child psychotherapist, I see what children carry and how they can lose a sense of self, connection and trust in their own thinking. Other countries are already teaching AI from early years.
