We want the Government to require AI voice-cloning services available in the UK to introduce safeguards to prevent people’s voices being cloned or used for impersonation without their consent.
AI voice cloning can allow someone to convincingly impersonate a parent, child or other trusted person. This creates risks beyond financial fraud. A cloned parent's voice could be used to instruct a child to open a door, disclose their location, leave a safe place or meet someone. We believe providers should be required to take reasonable steps to prevent foreseeable impersonation and safeguarding harms, while allowing legitimate and consensual uses of the technology.
