Open petition: Review NHS guidance for intimate examinations by healthcare professionals

Created by Rylee Selby
Closes on

Review NHS guidance for intimate examinations, including procedures, to ensure patients are provided with detailed information on the intimate physical exam, including what it will include, who will do it, how it will be done and why it is necessary, via a note sent with an appointment letter.

When visiting gynaecologists, many women take part in physical exams and may not be aware of what it involves beforehand. For many, these exams can be stressful, overwhelming and painful.

By mandating that intimate physical exams must be clearly explained before an appointment, the patient, whether they are female or male, can know what to expect and what to prepare for, particularly when genital examinations are involved.
